Hey, everyone! This’ll be my very first blog post on my author site. Ah, who am I kidding? This’ll be my very first blog post ever! On my first blog post, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Matthew Porter, author of the Edania Chronicles series.
I’ve always loved making up my own stories, and my own little worlds to which they belonged. I would play in the woods near my house when I was a little kid, and immediately be transported into a mystical forest filled with monsters and witches and flying beasts for me to fight. I’d usually win, of course. But sometimes, even in my own game, I would find myself trapped in the dungeon of the warlord of the vast forest, or be hurled into the sea by the evil queen of the sirens.
Throughout my life, my imagination never seemed to slow down or dim. Even as I venture into my 30s, I still find myself walking the neighborhood, imagining what it would be like if that certain patch of woods I walk by was a portal to another world, or what exciting stories that mansion on the edge of town could be holding. I’ve always enjoyed my imagination, and I’m glad I found a way to channel it.
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with writing. My brain tends to go 500mph, while my hands go at a snail’s pace. I also find it difficult to find the correct words to describe what I see in my head. That perfect shade of red to describe fire summoned by a superpower, or how menacing the bear-sized insect is when it stands before the heroes. But, I try my best, and that’s all that matters. I also have a few good people who help me when I’m stuck, or on the occasion that my brain fogs up.
A few other things about me, other than writing and my wild imagination. I’m an animal lover, so much that I even work at a veterinary clinic. German shepherds are my favorite dog breed, and I have an affinity for orange cats. I also love science, particularly microbiology and immunology. I’ve always had a fascination with how the body works, and the chemical processes that occur when the body is under attack by a pathogen. I mean, who doesn’t find white blood cell morphology awesome? I know I do!
I also love my family and friends. I have a loving family that I can truly thank God for every day, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world. As for my friends, I’d say the exact same thing. I don’t have many of them, but the ones I do have are beyond precious to me. There’re friends, and there’re true friends, and I choose to surround myself with true friends.
It’s true, I’m a huge romantic when it comes to truth and friendship and love…all of it. As a matter of fact, I love friendship so much, it’s one of the main themes in my book series. True friendship is a powerful thing, and can be quite difficult to find. If you happen to have it, you’re a fortunate person, indeed.
As for my book series, it’s something I’ve been working on since middle school. It started out with a simple concept: four friends who are dragged into a long, drawn-out battle between good and evil. From there, the plot would just fall into place little-by-little. I didn’t start seriously writing it down until about six years ago, when the final major puzzle piece fell into place. What was that puzzle piece? Can’t tell you just yet, but that final piece caused my desire to write this story to burn like an essential flame.
I’ll go into more detail with my book series next week, and add more snippets weekly. I plan on releasing the first book of the series late March of this year. I hope you all join my on my journey, and you’d let me transport you into the world of the Edania Chronicles.
Until next time, everyone!
